2006-05-09 (14.00 pm) : "How can we track a target when it is occluded"

At Euler building

Organized by Mathematical Engineering

Speaker : Orban de Xivry, Jean-Jacques
Abstract : In our everyday life, we see a lot of moving objects. Moreover, it often happens that an object, while moving, disappears behind another object and then reappears. Our oculomotor system is able to keep on pursuing the target even if it disappears. To do so, it combines both smooth pursuit (slow eye movements) and saccades (fast eye movements). We will analyse how both systems interact during the occlusion of the target and how they combine their response to be at the right position and at the right velocity when the target reappears.
