2017-05-22 (14:00) : Modeling of nonlinear systems using regularization: A tool to look into your brain ?

At Euler building (room A.207)

Organized by Mathematical Engineering

Speaker : Georgios Birpoutsoukis (VUB)
Abstract : Real systems exhibit in general nonlinear characteristics in their dynamic behavior. At the same time, advanced mathematical models of dynamic systems are more and more necessary for simulation, prediction and/or control. In this presentation we will go through the modeling procedure for a nonlinear system in the field of Biomechanical Engineering. The system involves the relation between imposed wrist motion and the voltage evoked in the brain as a reaction to this motion. One of the challenges in modeling this system is the quite limited intuition about the type of nonlinearity in the dynamic behavior.
