All Years Seminars
[INMA] 2007-02-15 (16.30pm) : Colloquium CESAME/MAPA "Abraham De Moivre : Génie en exil."
At Institut de statistique (C045)
Speaker :
Christian Genest (Université Laval, Québec
)
Abstract :
[INMA] 2007-02-13 (14pm) : "Complex networks : modeling and metrology "
At Auditoire Euler
Speaker :
Guillaume, Jean-Loup
Abstract :
The study of complex networks, or large graphs appearing in real contexts, has exploded since a few years, considering either problems
specific to some networks, like web-page ranking or spread of viruses over the Internet, or some generalizations of these problems like
the study of the measurement biases, analysis or modeling of complex networks, etc. During this seminar, two different problems related
to complex networks will be presented: the modeling of complex networks and the metrology of complex networks applied to the case
of the Internet.
- The modeling part will be presented using a random bipartite model. While this model was initially introduced to model some specific
complex networks, it can easily be used for most of them.
- The metrology part will be dedicated to the case of the Internet. After a brief presentation of the problem, I will show some simulations
results which where aimed at evaluating the bias that can appear when one wants to measure a network like the Internet using a tool like
traceroute, and the benefit one can have using many different sources to explore the network.
At Auditoire Ch.-J de La Vallée Poussin (cycl 01)
Speaker :
Pierre-Emmanuel Caprace (Oxford University)
Abstract :
[INMA] 2007-02-06 (14pm) : "Consensus on the N-Torus and Collective Motion in Three Dimensions"
At Auditoire Euler
Speaker :
Luca Scardovi (ULg)
Abstract :
Over the past decade, particular attention has been devoted to the study of collective problems where interacting agents must
reach a common objective under information and communication constraints. These problems arise in a variety of disciplines
including physics, biology, computer science and systems and control theory. In this talk a design methodology is presented to address
collective problems in presence of mild assumptions on the communication topology. In the first part of the talk, we study the behavior
of a network of $N$ agents, each evolving on the circle. We propose a novel algorithm that achieves synchronization or balancing in phase
models under mild connectedness assumptions on the (possibly time-varying and
unidirectional) communication graphs. In the second part of the talk, we address the problem of stabilizing relative equilibria in
a model of identical, steered particles moving in three-dimensional Euclidean space. We provide static and dynamic control laws
to achieve the desired equilibria in presence of all-to-all and limited communication respectively.
