[INMA] 2006-05-04 (17.00 pm) : Colloque CESAME/MAPA "Nonhermitian systems and pseudospectra"
At Euler building
Speaker :
Lloyd Trefethen (Oxford University Computing Laboratory)
Abstract :
Problems governed by matrices or operators that are far from hermitian may
have dynamics that has little to do with the eigenvalues. The alternative tool
of pseudospectra is introduced and four applications are presented: (1) hydrodynamic
stability, (2) wave packet pseudomodes, (3) lasers, and (4) the nonsymmteric Anderson
model from the field of "nonhermitian quantum mechanics".
[INMA] 2006-04-25 (14.00 pm) : "Asynchrony between position and motion signals in visual tracking"
At Euler building
Speaker :
Schreiber, Céline
Abstract :
The combination of catch-up saccades and smooth eye movements allows
primates to orient their visual axis towards moving targets. Saccades
are rapid eye movements that can reach velocities as high as 500°/s.
They allow to orient the fovea (the highest acuity zone of the retina)
to the target. They are controlled without any visual feedback, because
the visual delays are too long compared to their duration. Smooth pursuit
is characterized by slower movements. They can reach maximum velocities of
50°/s and allow to track a moving visual target. In contrast with saccades,
they are controlled by continuous visual feedback.
Visual tracking in two dimensions was used to investigate the role of motion
signals in smooth and saccadic responses.
[INMA] 2006-04-18 (14.00 pm) : "Finite-dimensional Compensator Design for a class of Distributed Parameter Systems with Control Constraints"
At Euler building
Speaker :
Bouchra Abouzaid (Universite d'El Jadida (Maroc))
Abstract :
The stabilization by a finite dimensional compensator problem for
a class of infinite-dimensional linear systems, with control inequality
constraints is investigated. The main result shows that the corresponding
state feedback results cannot be directly extended to the composite
system including a full-state observer. However, we get conditions of asymptotic
stability for a particular subclass of systems by an adequately use of the positive
invariance concept. The approach is developed using a state space system framework
which is based on a semigroup formulation.
[INMA] 2006-03-28 (14.00 pm) : "Equations aux dérivées partielles et systèmes en dimension infine : applications au génie des procédés"
At Euler building
Speaker :
Denis Dochain (CESAME)
Abstract :
At Euler building
Speaker :
Cécile Dobrzynski (GC)
